First time planting potatoes- did I do this right?

I made a makeshift container by using an exacto knife to cut four windows in one pot and then placing that in another pot. I put in a few inches of soil then the sprouted potatoes, then a little more soil and watered it. How often do i water this and what should i watch out for?

Looks like you're on the right track!!! As the shoots grow continue to add further layers of potting medium until you reach within a whisker of the rim of the container. Remember to water and feed once or twice with your liquid feed. Good luck and have fun!!! Keep us posted!!

Your potato cache pot is a great idea! If you are wanting to actually harvest, though, you will need a much larger container. Some say at least a 5 gallon size for a small harvest. (Sorry I didn't do the metric conversion for you!)

You can grow potatoes in a burlap bag too.

You can plant those outside now. Potatoes are a root crop, all the produce is under ground. Each eye will become a new plant. Alternately, wait until planting time. Before you place the seed pieces in the row, put down a small handful or two of compost every 10 or 12 inches, along with a small handful of superphosphate (0-20-0) or bonemeal (2-11-0). Both these fertilizers are high in phosphorus, which helps potato roots develop quickly. Have to keep an eye out for potato bugs. Little yellow squishy bugs that will suck juice from the plants.
