How can I stop ants from coming into the house?

I'm not sure if it works on ants in general, but I used to get fire ants in my compost pile when it cooled down. To get rid of them, I dissolved 1 cup of molasses (black strap) in a gallon of water and poured it all over the pile. You could try watering your plants with the same mixture while they're still outside, just before you bring them in. I don't think you'd have to wait more than an hour or so bring them in as the molasses water works very quickly.

I believe that Borax works.

They do not like Rosemary. Soak Rosemary with warm water, or put Rosemary oil in water, and spray where they are coming into area. Or cotton balls with oil or grow Rosemary plants in areas outside where they are getting in. I grow them in pots in kitchen & put leaves in floor near door. Then vacuum up & smell freshens up bag.

Mice also do not like Rosemary!
