Need easy and inexpensive ideas for herb gardens, please

already have 2 rectangle shaped planters and small and medium round terra-cotta planters.

Make sure they have drainage holes. Cover the holes inside with a screening. put a layer of gravel /sand covered with a poruous landscape fabric. Use clean potting soil. I like using some styrofoam pellets, tiny sponge pieces, or such so as to keep soil loose and holding water.
