Wool Dryer balls--I stopped using dryer sheets. These reduce static and fluff your towels nicely. No residue to build up on the filter screen. They come in sets of six--I use all 6 Mine were a gift from an Aussie friend but i think you can get them on Amazon. Been using these for over 4 yrs

True about the fabric softener. A neat trick is sticking a tennis ball in the dryer with your towels- their movement fluff up the towels. Another trick is to add a cap of white vinegar- it gets rid of any remaining soap to add extra fluff.

    Good luck!

I add it to the rinse cycle.

Vinegar to the rescue again...first why do we use a towel? to dry us or something off, right? Therefore by extension, do not use any chemicals on something you are going to rub on your body, on your utensils...second, a cap full of vinegar not so good...but to the rinse cycle of your Washing Machine, even a high density one will do several things..use 4% industrial vinegar..it is cheaper than vinegar filtered for consumption...add as much as your rinse cycle container will hold, and if you don't know, add 3/4 cup to your washing cycle if you can't interrupt the cycles..if you can interrupt, add to the rinse cycle..but I just do the wash cycle and it works...even T Shirts, and flannel stuff seem like new after a vinegar wash..several things will become evident especially after their second visit to the laundry room...

    1. they will appear whiter, or colors brighter...

    2. they will feel softer and really be absorbent..which was the reason for your quiry

    3. any calcium deposits lurking in the hidden parts of your washer will slowly begin to dissolve away...hey, you are automatically lengthening the life of your machine..

Just a little secret to share with you all...it is calcium in the water that tends to make it hard...the same calcium creates the hard ring around the taps, and toilet bowl if you don't use a water softener...which I don't .. as all that salted water eventually ends up in the drinking water..vinegar being an acid, softens and dissolves calcium deposits..used as a preventative measure it is so easy to ahead of the problem..they just won't happen...

Now another little secret that I share for free...we too consume hard water..and calcium for us is a good thing..but not a good thing if consumed without magnesium..which used to be in our soil and by extension in our food..but no longer....I don't question why...we seem to get an abundance of calcium but are deficient in magnesium...check out your food labels, yep..calcium added all over the place..check our wonderful Fast Foodies, cheese is everywhere, more calcium..

here is the kicker...we can get calcified as well...after we have created our teeth, nails, bones and muscular frame, where does the extra calcium we consumed go...well coupled with magnesium, it leaves like anything else the body does not require for continued maintenance..but without magnesium..it is stored..the body is just such a hoarder "for a rainy day"....how is it stored??...well all over the place..this is not a health forum, but to have optimum health to enjoy a good life, mind, body and spirit..I learned a lot from Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of many books, but the one that hooked me was The Magnesium Miracle....and for me it did become a miracle..but you can research that for yourself...the problem with not knowing something is this..you do not know that you do not know...until the lack of knowing causes a problem of mineral omission which ends up as cellular dis-ease - which if not looked after ends in black and white disease..and seems no one really checks into lack of magnesium as a "clue" to the problem..but it is often the "solution"...so honey, do your laundry, add your vinegar to the rinse cycle, and while the stuff is drying...read up on The Magnesium Miracle....and you are so welcome from the bottom of my heart...

So in the dryer with towels your not suppose to use softener or it won't be as absorbent. But can you use sheets in dryer for clothing and bedding?

  • Rozmund Rozmund on Mar 15, 2017

Eroque - personally not for me..too many chemicals..if you are trying to control wrinkles do not over dry your clothing..I always have mine on the very slight damp side..and I finger fold....but everyone is different..OR you could use fabric softener in liquid form that they claim is safe for babies..although don't quote me..just saying.....

Gee I asked about getting soft towels! Thanks anyway, someone mentioned vinegar in the wash and a tennis ball in dryer to fluff the towels. Thanks anyway!

Does the ball have to be a tennis ball or can you use any other such, as a dogs toy ball which has spikes ?

  • Rozmund Rozmund on Mar 16, 2017

Well, I have washed old running shoes I use in the garden..and found that in general everything was fluffy..just a thought..but yes, a dogs toy ball would work, spikes or not..as long as it will not absorb any chemicals from the washing project...my dog can smell stuff from 20 feet - just sayin
