What Would You Do?

Purchased a silver decorative coral online, 12 inches wide by 8 inches tall. Just received and I love it. However, it is silver but it looks like the color of the underside of aluminum foil. Two choices. 1.) Return it. 2.) Embellish it with "something" to make it shine much more. I do love the coral and is the perfect size....What to do?

Try the new mirror spray paint that is available. That should make it more shiny. One way to do it would be to fill a large bucket with water and spray the surface of the water with the silver mirror paint and then dunk the item slowly pulling it out. Then the paint will get in all the nooks and crannies! Good luck!

Here is a youtube video that demonstrates the process. They're using multiple colors to achieve a marbled effect but it's the same principle!

I would think about it for awhile instead of doing anything you will regret down the road.

I would embellish it- give it a unique, personalized flair!

So...You say to embellish the coral...it makes a statement on it's own but again, the color is a "flat" silver. I could get that look with a can of spray paint. Embellish it how? My decorating scheme is soft contemporary with pale greys and white. My accent color in my bedroom is a light/medium coral color. What I want is a bright, shining silver look. I've thought about spraying it with glue and sprinkling it with silver glitter but that idea sounds like Christmas...hmmmmm. Having said all that, should I return the coral or, set it aside for a little while.

i have tried this but not on coral lol! I have done it with sticks to display in a vase. You need to spray the surface of the water pretty good. I also havent tried the mirror paint on this-I assume that it is oil based. That's what happens-the oil based paint stay on the surface of the water and as you pull the object thru it covers it. Good idea to try it on something you don't care about first anyway though. I wonder if George Washington would like to be blinged up!😂

Okay Ms. Looney, tell me all about your sticks! Old George needs a makeup makeover but he has such a BIG head and it's heavy. I'd have to spray paint him...no lipstick allowed but he wants an earring in one ear.

Go along with Janet idea, wait until you're really ready to decide what you really want, don't be in a hurry you're end up with something you aren't happy with.

I know, Ssetzer, I know! Once I painted a box five (5) TIMES! Not going to tell you about the others....LOL! Right now I'm just stuck but I am covering a unique cigar box with paintable wall paper. It's two inches in height and the coral will sit on top of it.

Silver leaf it...it would be stunning.

Suellen, I have used silver leaf many times but this coral would be so difficult. Once upon a time, I silver leafed a chandelier and it turned out beautifully...not doing that again. My entire dining room was covered in it and I think some went up my nose...I probably swallowed some too!

Great, sometimes we have to put things aside before we really decide what to do,by the way I'm up the highway from you good luck a great idea will come to you, I'm sure you'll purchase something to replace it.☺

Ssetzer, we have a similar mind-set regarding setting things aside even if we are in the middle of a project. Good to talk to someone from NC!
