Will peel & stick wallpaper really stay on...?

I have an ugly steel door that leads from garage into my kitchen. I've tried indoor/outdoor paint do dress it up a bit, but the paint gets SO dirty it's hard to clean off & the paint doesn't stay on very good. I'm really not worried about the backside of it, but the part in my kitchen looks horrible. I don't want to buy stuff if if won't work & it'll be a waste of money. So my question is - Does anyone know if peel & stick wallpaper or shelf liner stick to it?

Did you use a primer before you painted?

if the paint is not sticking, the contact paper won't stick either. i would run a sander over the door, remove any loose paint, wipe the sanding dust off with damp rag or rubbing alcohol. let dry. then use a primer, and paint. some fire doors can expand in warm weather. mine in house no.2 certainly did. chalk board paint could be cool on the kitchen side.

Then I suggest you prep the surface correctly and try to repaint. Nothing will stick to the door including paint if you do not prep the surface.
