Get Creative With Flooring!!!

In my garage I keep all kinds of scrap wood that I save from projects I've done. I LOVE going to my garage and creating something I can use as art. When I saw my left over flooring, I knew I wanted to make something with it!!!

Once in a while I'll find metal wall decor or hooks that are super decorative that are half off at a Hobby Lobby. And as you can see here by the $5.99 price tag, even at full price they're still a bargain. The problem is I'd never hang them on my wall, so I combine my love of creating with my love of a bargain for things I'd never use.

Using the flat side (not the beveled edge side) I snapped 4 pieces of my scrap flooring together. Then used a rubber mallet to ensure they were firmly together. Each piece was the same length Which was 2ft.

next I found a couple of scrap pieces I could use for the backing. I connected them to the back using a glue and also my nail gun using finish nails.

I attached a D ring at each side for easy hanging then it was on to painting

First I used a clock stencil in the corner. Kinda abstract. Not the whole clock just the corner of it, with black paint.
The key to stenciling is to use a good brush and with the paint, less is more!

With white paint I stenciled a damask pattern around the clock.

Once the paint was truly dry, I finished the look with stain. For this piece I used 'Kona' color. The stain I used has a stain/poly combination so that I didn't need to finish or seal it. Just one coat was all I needed. I like using Kona but dark walnut is probably my fave.

Once it was dry, I took my Hobby Lobby wall art and removed the backing and attached it to my wall piece with E6000.

Once it was all dry it was ready to hang! Below are a couple examples of other pieces I've done. The bottom picture is the piece I made today.
Rustic wood wall art is very popular but can get kind of expensive. With the Fleaur De Lis piece, all in, this cost me about 5$ to make. If you were to buy this wood from Home Depot it would be about 1.98$ and the D rings were about 50 cents.
Go have fun and make your own art, you'll appreciate it so much more if you do!!!

As you can see, I like the French themes, but you can go with any theme you like ;)
