Under the Sea Wreath

A few years ago when my daughter in law was pregnant with our youngest granddaughter we did a sea themed shower. I had bought lots of greenery and little fish that we used to enhance the centerpieces and, of course, ended up with a lot of leftovers. I decided that after almost 7 years storing them I better do something so decided on a mesh ribbon wreath. I meant to do this last weekend for green crafternoon but really didn't have time.
Finished wreath
I started with a wire form I picked up at Dollar Tree for $1 and started attaching pipe cleaners to the inner ring and the outer ring at various intervals. You just twist them tightly, see below.
Twist to your heart's content
after I had gone all around, I took my mesh ribbon in green (again left over from another projec) and gathering it tightly and placing it in the middle of the pipe cleaners and twisting, leaving it puffy in between. You do this on the inner ring first.
First round.
Proceeded to the outer ring doing the same. I then used a burlap like mesh ribbon to accent and just went around each ring again, puffing along!
Once finished, it looks like this, pipe cleaners sticking out the right side of the wreath.
Needs to be cleaned up
I flipped the wreath over and pulled the ends of the pipe cleaners to that side and tied them to the back. This secures the ribbon more and actually hides the pipe cleaners.
Ready for embellishments....
Trusted glue gun to the rescue, I started gluing greenery, fish and shells all around....
Fish and sea grass
Shells...
I remembered I had a piece of rope left over from another project so I decided to use that as my hanger instead of a ribbon...
In case you want to see how I originally used the materials. All plant materials were from plants in my yard...
Now transformed into this!
