With spring cleaning creeping in I find myself wanting to purge and get to organizing! From the craft supplies to the bathroom goodies, I want to make sure everything has it’s place and also looks oh so stylish doing so. I am a sucker for the natural and rustic look, so when I saw this sisal rope for cheap at the hardware store I grabbed a bundle and got to dreaming up some ideas. I always have loved the cute baskets you see at Pottery Barn and Restoration hardware that look as though they were each lovingly handmade- but who has time to weave baskets? Well here is a quick and easy tutorial on how to make your own sisal basket, also just in time for a cute Easter related basket too!

Supplies:
  • Sisal rope
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Scissors
Start by folding the end of your rope like a “U” and then add a dollop of hot glue to secure this shape…don’t burn your fingers!
Next start to wrap the rope around that “U” creating a circle shape and layering the rope, once again secure with glue….
Keep rolling and gluing, rolling and gluing until you create the size base you want your basket to be…
Once you have the base you want (mine was about 5 inches or so) then you can start to create the “walls” of your basket by continuing your layers but on top of the base you created….
Once again, more rolling, stacking and gluing….
I  grabbed a popsicle stick to assist with spreading the glue that wanted to seep out and also managed to save myself some hot glue gun burns in doing so. I made the “walls” of my basket 10 layers high…
A quick snip of the rope and now it is time to tuck the loose tail in and glue to secure…

You may want to add some hot glue at the end of the rope to prevent it from fraying...
The tail is right under my fingers, I applied pressure to make it hold and it just naturally swoops down into the basket creating a “disappearing” effect.
Time to style! Since Easter is right around the corner I decided to go with the Easter decor route but these would be great little baskets for organizing crafts or in the bathroom as well! You could even make a little lid or handle too!
Stay Zesty!

Sam

I will definitely will try this project! I think I will make various sizes to hold various weight yarns. For yarn, I will line them with cotton fabric which I will have glued in place with my glue gun. Thank you for this great idea!

Nifty and a lot easier then rodeo rope. That's what I make mine out of. I use a wood burning tool to join the seams.
