How can I make my dark wood barn doors a bit lighter?

I do have a photo. I like the idea of

maybe dry brushing. Do you think it would work in these? Would it be difficult with the X in the middle?

Those are gorgeous! So, the trouble with the "x" is that the paint may be heavier where the brush meets the raised X. I would tape off the "X" and work on the triangles and the frame first. (like, completely cover the X , even the edges). Once you get those the way you want them, then untape the "X" and retape the painted edges of the panels and focus on the "X". It seems tedious, but I really think you will like the outcome better than if you just try to do it all at once.
