Ask a local nursery or your neighbors what would work best for you soil and conditions. I grew up in Florida and we always had azaleas, hydrangeas, palms, and bougainvillea in our yard as well as orange and grapefruit trees.

As the address says salt tolerant seaside plants. Unfortunately most flowers want the sun, but there are a few. Maybe you could place some old mirror pieces to redirect sun to the area and magnify it.
