Crafternoons: How Do You Repurpose Bottles?

Hillela G.
by Hillela G.
Last week, the Hometalk Community virtually crafted St. Patrick'sday decor together! Congratulations to our creative winners, DeeDee and Lisa!! This weekend's crafternoon theme is....repurposing bottles!!! Make any craft with an old bottle and post it on Discussions, our DIY forum, with the title “Crafternoons”. Post a photo, or even just a description!

Every week, a few crafternooners will win a fun prize! The catch? This is a weekend-only challenge- your discussion on the forum needs to be up by 11 PM EST on Sunday.

When my sons were young we wnt to the seashore every summer. They loved the beaches, sandcastles and collecting seashells. So what can you do with the small sells. I put some sand in a bottle, the shells, a pic of them collecting the shells and add some sisal and shells to top.

I love altered bottles. Here's a few I made. I've done lots more, most of which I like better than these, but this is all I have pics of. So much fun to do!

I turn them upside down, glue a small plate "butt to butt", then glue a cute ceramic doodad, or knick-knack, or critter, or flower or whatever matches the plate onto the plate (there are millions at the thrift stores). Poke a stick/rod into the flowerbed and slide the bottle down over the stick and you have a cute surprise element in the garden... Garden totems.

I created these by spray painting them white, then stenciling the letters. I painted the letters with glitter paint I made with decoupage, paint and glitter. I used some of the Dollar Tree table sprinkles and glued them in place with decoupage. Next I wrapped a small amount of burlap string around the tops, added some curling ribbon, used the St Pats Day wire with the tiny shamrocks and stuck flowers into the tops. Finished! Setting them next to the mantle mirror caused a reflection which sparkled when the sun hit them.
