I made a faux brick wall in my house with a bit of decorative painting! This was years ago, but it was fabulous! I purchased a decorative painting book(which you should be able to find easily on line) I uses a level and drew/taped out my grout lines on the hallway wall, chose my colors( you need two or three for the "bricks", and I rolled on the background or primary color, and then sponged on a couple of other tones over the red primary color. Let it all dry, and pulled off the tape, leaving the grout lines free of paint. The only problem I had was that the grout lines were too white. So I took an artist brush, about the same size as the lines and added a greyer/beige tone to finish. (You could paint the whole wall, too, before adding the 'bricks' layer. It was great! I have also seen, and this is if you are quite artistic, a stucco like finish with bricks peeking out, here and there) But I would recommend finding a book. This is an inexpensive way to cover a wall and break up the space for an interesting look!
