Help! I think my pool might have a leak!

My pool water level seems to be going down faster than normal. I live in Florida and this is the cool season so there should be very little evaporation. How can I check for a leak on my own. I'm told calling a service can cost $300. That's just to find a leak!

If you have a vinyl liner look to see if any debris is stuck to the sidewalls. Water going out will cause suction and pull leaves etc to it. You can also let the pool leak until it stops. Once it does the leak will be somewhere above the waterline. There are also repair companies that specialize in finding leaks and repairing them. Good luck!

I have a vinyl pool in Illinois for several years and two replacement liners. When my water line goes down, I plug the in lets and out lets. If the water stops going out of the pool it is a pipe that is the problem. Also, let the water seek its own level and you might find the leak. Most of my leaks have been in the skimmer line.

I also have built a pressure check system to find what line has problems by using a garden hose attached to 1.5 inch plastic pipe and a pressure gauge with shut off valve. If the city water pressure is the same as the line attached to the pool line, the line is good and if the pressure is lower the problem has been found.

How old is your liner?? If it's in the 10 year frame, replace it. We didn't realize the damage to liner and over winter it drained completely. Ice and snow built up on cover and crushed side walls of pool-- it was a complete loss.
