Help! We cannot seem to grow pumpkins, do you have advice?

We cannot seem to grow pumpkins...they will start up fine and then the big leaves will droop and begin to blacken...we have tried different parts of the yard, in pots , cutting off the dead leaves, leaving them on... but the plants all die... tried less water, tried more water.... what is it..???

Pumpkins need warm temperatures- they are very frost sensitive. Are you making sure to plant when temperatures are averaging around 70? You also want to water them only when the soil is dry. Keeping water off of the leaves will prevent mold growth which pumpkins are susceptible to and may be what is killing your leaves every year. Good luck!
To get rid of the mold and fungus in the soil yo can spray peroxide carefully on the soil, don't breath it, use a mask. I had the same thing plus mushrooms coming up everywhere. You can try spraying the leaves with a soap too. I can't remember what kind of soap I used before but it wasn't toxic.
Ask someone who grows Pumpkin Patches..........they'll let ya know! I myself, when livin' in OH., threw them over in my extra lot and I got
5 big pumpkins. I had 4 sons. The Herald came around and took pictures of them on my front porch. He said, they were the BIGGEST he had ever seen. I can't remember how we decorated them......Anyway, the frost come and he was back to take pictures.....they were ugly monsters. He put it on the front page of the newspaper. I kept the article for the boys. It is 42 yrs. old. A good memory!!
