My living room bookcases look dated, what can I do?

I have oak/plywood bookcases in my small living room. My bookcases are floor to ceiling and definitely look dated. What to do? The floor to ceiling, wall to wall windows are white, the floor is a dark stain, the fireplace whited painted brick, the walls a light tan. It looks extremely blah. Any suggestions? I'd post a picture but I don't know how

Use gel stain to change the color
I'd paint the back of the bookcases a color that coordinates with the rest of your room.

Hi, You could just paint the edge framework of the bookcase . That should lift it. Maybe cream or a few shades lighter than is now. Best wishes
