I'm a big fan of using chalkpaint- it adheres to most surfaces and cuts out a lot of the steps otherwise needed. Good luck!!! Have fun!

Lightly sand, clean, prime with Kilz or Zinser, allow to dry, paint, allow to dry and apply at least two coats of a non-yellowing polycrylic. make sure you allow the polycrylic to completely dry before applying the second coat.

Rust-o-Leum makes a product that comes in a kit. It has a "stripper" that takes the finish off, paint color options, glaze ,and a polyeurathane.. I have used it and love it. I go tit at home depot. Lowes has it as well
