Hostas and sedum planted in this corner. Only the very top is soil. There is six inches of pea gravel underneath.

Experiment! And if plants don't thrive try a selection of colorful pots and make it a container garden!
I think Phlox would grow well. I had a rock garden years ago and Phlox spread beautifully.
Succulents, shallow rooted and will drain well.
