You can also use an oil based paint. Though most people report the best results with Rustoleum - is there a reason that you don't want to use it?

You can use an epoxy based paint, but that is what the Rustoleum kits are.

Thanks for your answers I just wanted to see if there are any other options because my husband wanted to try to use a gloss paint and I keep on telling him that will not work.

I used an acrylic latex paint from Lowes. Has held up for years. Am about to change the color.

Can you share what type of prep work is involved? We live in a 100+ yr old home and have a tub that's probably not original but is also very old. The finish is worn to the point that you can see what looks like rust coming thru. I would like to refinish the tub but never heard of using paint?

I called an expert to prep and spray my tub with no mistakes and all I had to do was write the check!!!

Is your tub porcelain or steel? I just cleaned my acrylic tub well with Comet cleanser and rinsed very well. Make sure your tub is dry (I waited 24 hours after cleaning mine). I used exterior acrylic latex paint. It's pricey but well worth it. I also used a foam roller.
