Where should asparagus be planted in the garden?

We planted some 3 years ago, next to the rhubarb, and got only a couple of very sparse, skinny stalks of asparagus.

Asparagus is usually pretty care free. Usually it takes 4 years to get a decent harvest. How old were the roots you planted? Fertilize in spring and fall ?did your plants have red berries? If your plants did you have female plants a nd a great er yield comes from male plants. It is very easy to increase your planting bed using the red berries...just remember that it takes 4 yrs. some people remove the red berries because asparagus beetles use those berries to overwinter and destroy your plants.
Our plants were about 3 years old, no red berries. I would like to try them again this year but in a different area of the garden. Thanks for the help.
Plant your asparagus next to your tomato patch; they help each other grow, produce well, and keep bugs off each other.
I would wait and fertilize the bed this spring because you might just get a decent harvest this year. Did you harvest from your plants? Usually those 4 yrs you harvest only sparingly because they are building up their root systems...an asparagus bed will last for 20 years. Or more. Wherever you move it to, just do it with the idea of it staying in place.

Nothing to harvest, just some spindly twigs. My husband pulled everything out. Thanks for the message.
