What can I do with my ROTTING bathroom backsplash?!

I have a 3 inch back splash in my bathroom which is starting to rott through. Does anyone know if I could caulk it then maybe paint over it . It drives me crazy on a daily basis! Or do I try to remove that piece from the vanity top and replace with a tile back splash. ANY change would be an improvement

When you say its rotting I assume its laminated particle board. Best to remove it. If its not part if the vanity top then its probably caulked to the top and glued to the wall. Removing it may cause some damage to the wall which would need to be patched with drywall patching compound, sanded, and primed. Then you can tile.

Thank you ...and yes it is awful laminate hoping I can remove it without too much damage . It is a seperate piece. thank you .

  • My vote is with William. If there is water damage and you just caulk it up there is a potential mold issue that is unhealthy and far more expensive to repair. Address the issue now and save yourself time, money and headaches down the road.

If there is no mold you can prime it and paint it with exterior house paint. Not a permanent fix but a band aid till you can do the proper upgrade.

If it is moldy I would get rid of it. You don't want to bring mold inside.
