I have picked 5 tomatoes but now most have a worm eating the insides of each tomato. What can I do to stop this?

I have friends that like to smoosh them like Jeanette, and they watch the "pretty green" stuff go everywhere. However, I am a very squeamish person! I developed a hands free method to rid the ugly horn worms 🐛 I knock my tomato worms off the plant with a chopstick into a mason jar full of water or rubbing alcohol. Then they get the burial at sea (aka flushed down the toilet). I pick worms first thing in the morning & again in the evening. Look at leaves for their poo pellets, and the nasty beasts are usually above that underneath the leaves. Good luck!

I found this tip from a fellow Hometalker:

Garden Tip – How to repel horn worms.

To repel horn worms mix 1 cup crushed calendula leaves and flowers (Marigolds) with 2 cups water. Steep for 24 hours and strain. Add 1 1/2 quarts water and 1/4 tsp. dish soap to a spray bottle and spray on your plants. Good luck!

If the worrms are inside eating outward, a bug has laid eggs in the blossoms and all you can do is throw away the damages ones. If it is worms crawlingvaround andbeating the tomatos, use insecticidal soap

I grow tomatoes in a pot on my deck and found out if I grow marigolds near the plant the worms don't show. I've used this method for about 4 years & have been successful. My neighbor has a veggie garden & does the same with no worm problems also.

Sounds like pinworms (don't panic not infectious to humans) I always plant my tomatoes with basil, they love each other. Basil is a repellent plant and enhances the flavor of the tomato. Go buy a small basil and plant it in the pot with your tomato. In the meantime, you can use kaolin clay (brand name Surround) to protect your plants from munchers.
