How can I plant for low water use?

I'm trying to find a garden plan that would allow me to remove most of my grass and plant a variety of flowers and other decorative plants that would be fairly low maintenance and require little watering. It's for a Denver area yard. The light is mixed but mostly sun, and it drains well. I'm not sure of the soil conditions. We all need to be thinking of water conservation these days, Ideas?

Cacti and succulents would give you a nice variety of texture and color.

Love that you are thinking about water conservation

I agree that succulents and cacti can create a beautiful garden that requires minimum watering. You can add stepping stones or pebbles between your plants to really complete the look. Happy gardening!
