I use miracle grow organic. I hardly water at all (except during the brutally hot summer months), but they are on the north side of the house and for me - they grow quickly. If they shrivel and fall off could be a lack of water. They can freeze, so depending where you live, that could contribute too.

I brought my mother's 50ish year old jade plant to my son's house, it was placed away from the house. In the winter we had a time of frost and it died...I thought. My son wanted to throw it out, I said, 'lets give it a bit more time an put it up against the house'. It came back and has been doing well ever since, even through the frosts of winter. As a previous post said, it only gets water in the hot summer months. Don't give up on it, you will find the right place for it and right amount of water in time.

I can only agree with the person above who confirmed high light and low water. The soil content isn't so important but the conditions must be right. Perhaps look for tips on the internet or get a book out of the library.
