Start by amending the soil with an ultra light top soil and peat moss. Select your grass seed and apply with stater fertilizer.Top off with more peat moss and keep the soil moist until the seed germinates.
Use coffee grounds, used of course and some sawdust if you know someone that you can get it from or old straw from a farmer. Work this in to the soil also sand works. Especially if you can get some of the old sand tubes they use in the back of pick up trucks. I've used them all and it works fine. Or your grass clippings from the other parts of the yard.
