Hi, I have an area in my backyard that does not get much sunlight, bare in grass in many spots and I need something to plant that is hardy because the ground is clay. What would be a good plant for this area and will help with erosion? Thanks

Liriope, monkey grass will grow shade or sun, and is good for erosion. Huchera, coral bells, is nice and brngs color. There are many beautiful hostas. There are many sedums that Will grow in shade, and are good for erosion. Some are fast growing. I have vinca(the perennial),grown in most of my beds. Some consider it invasive, but I don't have that problem. Creeping jenny is a beautiful, fast growing ground cover, but it can be invasive. I also have a nice moss garden growing in the shade. Good luck

Don't forget astilbes...come in white pink red shades oh purple. And hellebores are great for early spring color.

    Also primrose in spring.

How about starting a moss garden. It will spread over time & be soft underfoot as well as maintenence free.
