Waterproof, cheap non-linoleum/non-tile surface for wood floor?

We live in a 1957 mobile home and floor is wood covered with cheap linoleum tile but it is worn, dirty looking and broken in places. We'd love to find an inexpensive way to coat the floor with something so it looks like the wood, but is permanent. We have pets, so need to make floor waterproof and easy to clean, as well as attractive.

May I suggest a vinyl floor. The one I have used throughout my house is Allure by Traffic Master. It is sold at Home Depot. They have residental and commercial and come in a variety of colours with a wood grain. It is easy to install, water proof and very durable.

Thanks much Giselle. I was thinking more of some kind of treatment I could do myself without buying a floor covering from the store. I am a low-income senior so I honestly don't have money to buy a floor covering. I could probably get paint or something similar though. I appreciate your suggestion though. What I have in mind is removing the current vinyl tiles and then doing something like painting, etc. but I have no experience in doing this. There were staples in the floor too and I have removed some of them, but still have more to remove. They were from the original carpeting.

Check to see if there is a Re-Store in your area. Habitat for Humanity runs these thrift shops for building material that is left over from big jobs or discontinued by stores that donate it. I've purchased all kinds of building products from used cabinets, tile, pieces of carpet still in good condition, light fixtures, plumbing supplies, windows, screens, paint, even used bathtubs, sinks, and countertops. Talk to them and they may be able to help with affordable materials and directions for installing for little cost. There is help out there. Stop by a Senior center, or call your county Department of Aging, and ask some questions about where to get assistance for home repairs.

Thank you so kindly for taking the time to respond. Actually Habitat for Humanity Re-Store is one of my best friends. I haven't been there for awhile, but I appreciate this good reminder. Yes, I have gotten a lot of things for the home there. That is a good tip about Dept. of Aging too. I love your good attitude, "Where there is a will, there is a way." Peace and many blessings, Anne
