it sounds like the finish has worn off the tiles.... are they ceramic or vinyl....?? i don't think vinyl ca be helped unless there is a paint on clear finish.... i would call a flooring store and ask them... they might even come out and look....!! on the picture......what kind of dirt ??? i it's just dust.....use a dry paintbrush....or even the vacuum..... if its really dirty.....i would use something like shout....but spray the whole thing....or it will leave water circles.....good luck !! nice pic of you.....xx

Leanne, try google. Maybe that will help you figure out what it's called in the UK.

have your tiles been sealed? If not, that will give you the wet look that you are describing. If you go into a tile shop and ask for a tile sealer, they can recommend a product.

Leanne, DO NOT clean painting with household cleaners, this could cause permeant damage, go to an arts store, or google how to clean.

Any art store will have a soft, kneadable eraser for cleaning art work.

  • Wendell Cochran Wendell Cochran on Mar 31, 2017

The kneadable art eraser is the only "non-professional" safe product to use. But, don't rub it like an artist would to remove pencil marks or charcoal. Just knead it until it is soft, and then push it down on the surface, with a fair amount of pressure so that anything loose will have been picked up by the soft surface of the eraser. After pushing and pulling about five or six times, re-knead the eraser until it gets soft again. The kneading distributes the gunk you pick up off the surface of the art work back into the interior of the eraser and it will make the surface of the eraser sticky again. enough to pick up surface gunk, grit, dirt, etc. FTI (don't try this): Before kneadable erasers were invented, housekeepers actually used soft chunks of French bread (flour, water and yeast) to clean oil paintings, using the same method, or by rolling it around on the surface of the over varnish to pick up air born dirt particles, soot from burning candles and tobacco products, and smoke from fire places. Any kind of bread crumbs or chunks that wouldn't lay down a extra layer of grease or oil.
