Why are our new windows sweating?

  • It is when cold air hits warm air. Think of a glass of ice tea that sweats in the hot air. You could adjust the temp of your home down a couple degrees in the winter. (I assume it is happening now?) You also may want to check to see that the windows were sealed properly and there are no air leaks which can cause this too. Hope this helps.

This is something I would call my supplier about. We had new double pane windows with that finish inside put in and have had no trouble. I know we do not get the same conditions you folks get...down to 21 lately...but I don't think the new kind of windows are supposed to sweat inside!!!!

are they wood, vinyl, or (ug) metal? get a hummidity guage to check the vapor level in the home. if it is warm one day, and cold the next, the high hummidity will stay in the home for a couple days and collect on any cold surface it can find ie: windows. this sudden cause is because your home is sealed up better than it was before the windows were installed so not really the cause of the window itself. be sure to keep your sills painted well so the moisture won't do damage. soulution will be to lower the hummidity in the home, not an easy task.
