I would like to know how and what got you started in making crafts?

I love this question!! For me it was the inspiration I found on Hometalk. I saw the amazing projects that everyone here were making everyday and I took the plunge- I started small and haven't stopped since. How about you??

I got started when my boys were small,,,we didn't have much money to spare for new items in our home so I decided to just update and make things new or better again.......been crafting for about 50 yrs now ......and still love it ....

My mom was crafty, got it from her. Plus my dad was a General Contractor, guess it is in our dna! ☺

My sister taught me how to do stained glass about 20 years ago. I really enjoyed doing it listening to calming mood type music. Weird, i know but it was very calming to me. (I had a stressful job). I did that for years then started seeing more and more craft posts (Facebook, email, etc.) that caught my eye. I retired about 6 years ago and when boredom started setting in I decided to start trying some of these crafts I was seeing. About 2 years ago (?) I joined Hometalk and that sealed the deal. Every morning I get my coffee and my tablet and sit on my porch and review every post on my daily Hometalk email. It's become a ritual. I so enjoy others great creativity and imaginative ideas.

My Grandma Leblanc bought me a Singer Featherweight sewing machine when I was ten. My fabric came from beautifully printed flour sacks my dad bought in bulk for baking. That taught me a lifelong lesson not to spare anything around the house! I'm proud of all of you gifted folks! And ya never stop learning.

I started by making Cards for friends etc by joining a cardmaking club on FB , then I started to verge over to doing a Parchment course, then into Floating Teacups and now into anything crafty

My dad did a little bit of woodworking, and my mom sewed and knitted and did paint and wallpaper. So I got interested in making things, too. I live in a very small apartment, so my DIY is mostly crocheting these days. But I'm moving to a bigger place. We'll need stuff like furniture and curtains and rugs. I'm planning to DIY or refurbish some of it. It'll be fun!

yes it is, I am house bound so like to fill my days doing as much as I can I don't want to be a couch potato just watching the TV which would be so easy to get into

I can't remember a time when I was doing some type of craft or DIY project. My father was great at building things and gardening, I learned so much from him that I use to this day. My mother knew how to sew and also painted watercolor landscapes. It seems like everyone in my family had artistic talents (including my Aunt, who at one time was a renowned N.M. artist) so I had a lot of inspiration growing up, thankfully, it stuck. Unfortunately, I can't paint anything other than a wall or trim, I was able to find other outlets for my creativity (including my job).
