Galley kitchen, ranch style home remodel

We are tearing out the support wall to open the living room to the galley kitchen. There is a stair case to the finished basement in there also so we are leaving a partial wall about chair rail high around the steps. I would like to see ideas of an island on the deep end of that chair rail wall for more work surface in the kitchen. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

@CinD96, is there anyway you can share a photo of your current kitchen and stairway to give us an idea of it's surroundings? I tried doing image searches on Google and Houzz and found nothing, though using the word "peninsula" got better results for something that backed up to a half wall, none were at stair cases and most had seating.
