When, or if, do you think cross stitch might come back?

  • I think it is a great craft, I stopped as it became too tedious for me to see and frustration set in. People still do it, but probably not as many as before.

Years ago I used to do it, counted cross stitch. Recently I bought a pre-printed X stitch butterfly throw pattern. It's not as simple anymore, the diagrams are small with symbols, & I'm having a hard time dicifering what the symbols are to indicate color.

Yep I think its still in or some people are going to quilting because it is big now. But I think we all need a hobby and projects. What ever they maybe. Especially if your going to retire, it is not easy to fill the hours one spends on their jobs with doing frivolous things. Do a project gives one a sense of accomplishment, what ever it is.

I still do cross stitch in fact I just finished one for my daughter its different now. Fray check instead of hemming, a snag nab it, thread heaven, a great magnifier light, nice thread ,sharp scissors and a sunny window and I'm good to go. Check out ABCstitch and you will get lots of ideas. Its a great way to do something productive instead of computer games I find I sleep better at night if I do this instead of using the computer to read or playing a game. I also snack less because I want it to stay as clean as possible. Try it you may like it.

I did but it came out blurry. blowing it up just distorted every thing and was difficult to make out what the symbol was vs. color it indicated. So i'm just going to guess at it and hope it comes out pretty. it'll be going on my own bed, so I'll be the one seeing it all the time.

As long as you make it relevant, it is in fashion. I mentor new teachers and many of them cross stitch. Use a piece in a pillow, stitch your favorite quote, just do it for you and you will be surprised how many others love it.

That's the only kind of sewing I know how to do. Heck, I have to use somewhat of that stitch to put a button on a shirt. Lol

It's not gone but like everything else it cycles in and out in popularity. I am a picture framer and we get them in every week. So people are still doing all types of needle work. It is too time consuming for me and I don't like doing it but I really admire the work of the talented needle workers out there.

I'm been around to see crafts come and go and coming again. Most crafts cycle on a 7 and 11 year cycle. When they come back in there are always slightly different because you have new minds doing the creating and processing. I've seen macrame come and go 4 times. But I still love it.
