Can you give me suggestions for curb appeal?

The front door of our house is on the side. The front facing the street is the living room window. on either side of the window we have brick facing. All the " curb appeal" ideas seem to be for traditional front doors. Can you offany suggestions for the front of our house?

Enlarge column, it looks out of scale. If you have another's on the far left (hard to see in photo), make them larger too. I would also consider a different paint palette. The bricks look slightly pinkish. the complimentary color is green. I would consider dark olive-grey for shutters and a lighter olive grey for the paneling. Highlight the window trim and other trim in a light color. I would probably give the lightest bricks a wash to tone done the polka dot effect. The earlier landscaping comments sounded good. I would add a nice shade tree in the middle of the yard to add more depth to the lawn. Good luck, I hope you are happy with your changes.

Try Shutters on each side of the window to enhance its presence; a welcoming seating area (love seat or chairs in front of the brick); and/or to anchor the house to the yard a topiary or large plant near the post plus smaller plants in front the full width of the house and extending in a curve toward the driveway. Whatever pleases you!

Not to sound rude but is there a budget you need to work with?

Small as possible. I'm thinking landscape and yard in front.

Have you considered painting the brick? The sprinkle brick color is very dated. If it were mine, I would paint the brick a darker green, the trims and upper a light green. (or vice versa). Put a nice tree in middle of yard and a garden along entire front wall with varied height plantings.

    • I actually had a friend with almost this exact same facade. They had a broken brick wishing well in the middle of the yard. Had to be the tackiest 1950's gypsy look I ever saw. So don't feel you got it so bad.

I like the green paint idea! But, I have an orangy shingle roof. Would you go with the green or suggest another color?

I think that works well. Orange and green are complimentary colors. Orange = yellow +red, Green=yellow+blue. Yellow door or accents would be excellent.

If you're talking landscaping you need to purposely draw your eye to the area. Create an enlarged oval or circular area specifically for rock landscaping or sod, one large boulder placed offset of center, a bird bath, 5-7 planted ornamental grasses facing the street side. Placing an arbor with seating opposite the boulder will also create a focal point. Visit your local garden centers for suggestions. Best of luck.
