What color for our Small space around the sink window??

I have white cabinets and white subway tile. I have a few inches of area around the kitchen window that needs to be painted. There's about 2 inches on the sides and about a foot above the window. I'll have ceiling white on the ceiling. The trim will be white to match the cabinets. The dining side of the kitchen will be painted Benjamin Moore Dior grey. What color do I paint the area around the window - white or Dior grey?

  • I would go with the Dior Grey, to provide contrast. I love your kitchen, exactly the look I am going for. What will your accent color be?

I would do either a darker grey, some very pretty mosaic stenciling, or something really bold...like a red~ You could also do something with letters at the top as well.

I would continue the tile up to the top of wall

Oh, and perhaps paint your window frame same color or shade darker than grout

Grey or black. I did a black and white contact paper around mine and love the contrast!

Definitely paint the area around and above the window in Dior Grey (such a great color choice)!

The monochromatic white look is a clean and classic look... but without a little pop here and there, it can be very dull. Contrast is what our eyes are drawn to; it defines what we see and how we visually interpret space. Used judiciously, think of contrast as helpful hints or guides for the eye to quickly allow the viewer to resolve the space (our brains are always looking for shortcuts) and you get to set the tone!

Those thin strips of Dior Grey running vertically on both sides of the window will really frame the window frame, making it even more of a focal point. It looks like there might be some unfinished/ unpainted wood up against the glass, and while I can't quite tell how the frame is built up in there, if there is some kind of form—ideally a thin (0.25") strip or trim around the glass pane, I would also paint that in Dior Grey, or if you have another accent color that you're using (a very dark navy blue grey would be gorgeous) I think you'd be very happy with the results.

I just did the same exact thing around my kitchen window last week. I would go w/ a very darkgrey, almost like charcoal - it's very dramatic and high-end, and if you don't like it you can always paint it the lighter grey. If you have any accent colors at all (turquoise, red, coral, etc. ) you can always use that as brighter accent color for even more drama. For this much area go get a SAMPLE jar of paint - $3-$5, no since paying for a quart.

I'd say the gray with a glass shelve under the window with colorful blooming plants or fresh herbs.
