How can I hang pictures down our L-shaped hallway?

We have an L-shaped hallway. Several years ago, we took all of the pictures down and repainted. I bought all black frames, not all matching, but all black and all different sizes. We also have a few bare walls in our living room and family room. I just don know where to begin and how to style the wall so it looks like a feature and not just a conglomeration of thrown together items. I would like to mix metal pieces and vinyl lettering and maybe some wooden elements in there as well. Any suggestions on how to start and not get too carried away making it look cluttered? I do like clean lines, but I also like a surprise thrown in, something that catches the eye. Thanks for your help!

one thing you can do to keep the area from getting overwhlemed is to use one consistent color for the frames on your pictures. that will it will give an overal uniformed look and keep the space from getting cluttered. Best of luck- have fun!!
In a staggered evenly spaced grouping, do a trip down memory lane. The first grouping would feature your wedding, a couple of honeymoon pics and you can use removeable vinyl in script lettering and numerical dates once finished measure from the beginning of the "L" wall your grouping is on to the end of the grouping. Next step is to use the measurement on the opposite wall, now begin the next grouping in your trip down memory lane. Once completed, measure from the beginning of the "L" to the end of your grouping....on opposite side measure from start of "L" to the end measurement of your opposite walls grouping and start your next grouping. It may be a little time consuming but you'll get a crisp line of memories evenly staggered between the two walls.
ID end with a current family photo with removeable vinyl script and numerical dates.
the entire "L" hallway is now a beautiful focal feature that is not cluttered and will give an impression of elegance.

Cluster like imaged pieces, separate with larger individual pieces. Clusters do not need to be of the same style frames.
Since all of the frames are black , you can scan all of the photos and reprint them in black and white . I did this a while back for the group of photos in the living room . It was all family grandparents on top, then parents , my siblings next, on the last row was my children . Everyone seeing it for the first time commented in a manner .
Trace the frames out on paper so you can use as templates on wall before you actually hang to get an idea of what the grouping will look like. Better to know with paper then keep hanging up and down. Then you don't have to remember what goes where. For the added surprise find small items that are not pictures in black ( since that is the color you are using) to insert every now and then. Maybe a small mirror, initial, wall art, etc. Or if you are feeling a bit crazy use the non picture items to add a pops of color. :)
