I use sponge sanding blocks. Short lengths of different size dowels I wrap sandpaper around. 1 x4 and 2 x 4 blocks of wood wrapped with sandpaper. A lot of hand sanding.

Thanks William! Never thought of those suggestions. Sounds like they will get the job done.

I use flexible sanding pads. They used to carry them at Home Depot, but they haven't been in stock lately, so I order them from Amazon. I also use a mouse sander with an attachment to get into as many areas as possible. Good luck with your project Bob!

I'm not sure how far you are taking it down, but they do sell liquid sander deglosser at home improvement stores and also Citra solve works great too its a stripper. Those may help you take a finish down quite a bit and save you some sanding if it has a lot of curves and it isn't too easy to get it all off?

If you use a liquid remover, like Nikki suggested, you can use knitting yarn or string to get down into those tight places like some furniture legs have. A spoon can be used to remove it in the depressed areas. Just be careful not to apply too much pressure, or it might gouge the wood. You might also use Q-tips in places where appropriate. A plastic or metal putty knife will help speed the removal on flat surfaces.

I like fine steel wool and a very small wire brushes about the size of a toothbrush I get in a 3 pack at the dollar store, or a firm toothbrush.
