5 Ways to Decorate a Dollar Store Vase

15 Minutes
Easy
I love the dollar store and have a million uses for simple vases for every occasions. With National DIY Day on April 2, this is the perfect craft to celebrate with your family! Mod Podge, tissue paper, nail polish, washi tape, cocktail napkins and spray paint can transform these vases into home decor gems for any any occasion!

All you need is this vase for $1

Customize the vase with your favorite cocktail napkin. Apply Mod Podge directly on the vase. Cut out cocktail napkin. If the napkin has multiple layers remove all of them. Lay napkin flat on Mod Podge surface and use finger to smooth out napkin. Let dry for 15-20 minutes. Avoid contact with water.

Use two different washi tapes to decorate the vase. I used a thin solid tape and a thicker patterned tape to create a contract. I love this design because you can remove the tape and change it up for every occasion.

Ombre is still hot! I used stained glass spray paint to create this ombre effect. Spray more coats at the bottom and lessen as you go up the vase. Make sure to spray paint in a well ventilated room.

This fun colorful tissue paper design remind me of a pinata and screams Summer! Coat the vase in Mod Podge. Rip tissue paper into 3-4 inch square sections. Twist each piece and press onto the vase. Cover the entire vase!

I never get tired of trying to marble with nail polish on new surfaces. Fill a tupperware bowl with water (you will need to dispose or just use for crafting). Select nail polish colors. Pour nail polish gently on the water surface. Take wooden skewer and lightly shif nail polish on the surface. Dip vase straight down into the water and bring straight up. Let water bead off. Place on parchment paper to dry. The nail polish dry quickly on the surface of the water so don't let more than 60 seconds lapse between pouring the nail polish and dipping. Hand wash.

TADA!! Please share your ideas for crafting with these $1 vases in the comments. I hope you will join me in celebrating National DIY Day on April 2, 2017!! I have tried nail polish marbling on coffee cups and it worked great. I am going to try this on glass vases. Great idea.
