It won't let me browse the sewing and craft section. I'll google it. Thanks a bunch.

One way would to make a patched quilt top, then line the whole thing with a sheet, stitching it in place so the quilt top was lined then stitch it all to another sheet, which would form the envelope of the duvet. A good place to get inexpensive sheets is Sierra Trading Post,....but you can't be in a hurry. when you see a good deal, then grab two top sheets of whatever size you need.

I make lots of duvet covers for my patients who are bed bound. I usually buy the sheets at Goodwill when I see some nice ones. We have a couple free stores in my town and sometimes I hit them up for some sheets for my disabled clients. Sometimes I applique a design on the top sheet or paint an inspirational saying. Flannel is real popular for warmth and coziness. I usually use 2 different color sheets for variety.

I precut the sheets leaving an inch and half seam allowance and 3" on each side for fitting comforter in all the way around from the dimensions of the comforter. Put right sides together and pin a 6 inch tie across each corner (you will sew a loop on each corner of the comforter and then you tie the comforter in so it doesn't shift) , sew 1/2" on 3 sides. Trim corners diagonally leaving tie, so when you push the corners out they won't be bulky. Now I press everything well, and pin a 1" all the way around the 3 sides to top stitch (this could be decorative), on the open end I tuck the excess in and iron, and pin the 1" top stitch guide. Sew opening seperately. The open end can have buttons and button holes, big snaps, or I prefer an upholstry zipper (I usually find these in thrift stores too, and collect them).

If the sheet set comes with a fitted sheet, I will sometimes make matching pillow cases out of one of them, especially those king size pillow cases cost a fortune.

So it usually costs me $4.99 for sheets and $1 for zipper. Sure cuts down on comforter washing and trying to keep the pets off the bed.
