We need to replace our shingle roof and I'm looking for greener and cheaper alternative options, any ideas?

I've heard tin roofing is a greener method, is this true and how does it compare to typical shingles?

Asphalt is an oil based product, so the price is rising, making metal roofs more popular these days, from a financial and "green" viewpoint. Tin is no necessarily the metal used anymore, metal roofs are made from aluminum, galvalume, galvanized and stainless steel, tin, terne, zinc, copper, and stone coated steel. Many types of styles are also available. They have come a long way from he old farmhouse tin roofs.
