Old farm house

I have an old farm house that needs to come down. It was built about 1890 from oak and black walnut harvested from the farm Can anyone suggest a way I can get someone to take it down and haul the wood away? Anyone want an old farm house? Location: SW Wisconsin.

Check to see if there are any architectural salvage companies in you area. The wood is very valuable. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding someone to take it away. Also, an ambitious antique dealer may be interested or know someone who is.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas.

I wish I lived much closer, but since I don't; I suggest you put an ad in a free paper (most communities have them). Just say what it is and that you want someone to tear it down for the wood. No monies involved. Hope this helps!!

Go on line and look for REPURPOSING LUMBER DEALERS and contact some of them. If there is power to the property so you could provide an electrical hookup for a camper to house the workers for a few days, this might help. They like to get in there, get it done and get out. I just googled this and came up with pages...did not investigate any, but they are out there!

@Julie to get power to the property, all you need is an alternator from a car/truck/semi truck, some wire, 3 or 4 good batteries, the blades from a box fan, something to mount the alternator to, and a converter(it's a box that converts 12 volts to 120 volts... ;) Never under estimate the wisdom of a hillbilly redneck. LOL

I am with Jeanette--see what answers you get from salvage specialists. In Lincoln, NE, there is a wonderful nonprofit that tears down and resells all usable lumber.

old barn wood is very valuable! My father just made me a headboard out of 80 year old barnwood and to turned out beautiful! I'm sure you will have tons of people jump on it. Good luck! Wish u were here I'd love to have it.

I agree with the suggestions of finding salvage or lumber dealers. This is prime scrap material that they will resale for a good amount. There is even a show "Black Dod Archtectual Salvage" that does that for a living. They travel to get good vintage items like that and they can make you an offer to buy off you or etc. However, 'm sure you will find a company near you. Good luck,

Salvage is prolly the best way to go...next on my list would be wood turners & carpenters...then if all that fails,...anybody have any Marshies(marshmallows)?

I once had some old tires from a tractor that were left there by a previous owner. I called around & not one person or business would take them....even if I brought the tires to them. Ended up I had no choice but to burn them.... worse case scenario, you may have to do that with the old farmhouse...or call the fire dept & see if they want to use it for training...
