I have one long shelf above the clothes bar in my bedroom closet and I have many boots , and purses that i need to store. NICELY....I am short , this comes to play since i cant reach way but could use a step stool. Anyways I was trying to figure out a cool way to store winter boots, purses up on this shelf without spending lots of money i dont have. I just need some good ideas ...and I will be doing this all by myself at 64yrs old. so I dont have a man to help nor nifty tools.....wow, I really sound pitiful dont I.???? haha I just like organization and this is a new apt. and I want to do it right the first time around. Thanks for any and or all help. I appreciate it. icon

4ft 11 here :) Totally feel your pain! I try to organize my closet so that I put the opposite season's clothes on the shelves that I need a stool to reach, and shoes go in a shoe organizer on the floor. You can buy them pretty cheaply, or you can DIY a wooden one - this is a good one: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/entryway/shoe-storage-solutions/build-a-shoe-rack-20126008

I went to Goodwill and got a hanging shoe holder that fits on the rod and a hanging sweater holder that also fits on the rod with velcro that I put my purses in, only costs a couple bucks each. I also got a few plastic milk crates for the shelf to rotate seasonal clothes $6 ea. Then I just put oversized shoe boxes on shelf with a picture on the end of what each box contains.

There are shoe racks that can hang on closet rod or on back of closet door.

I put all my purses in a tote with no lid (easy to access that way) on the closet floor since I have too many to really hang up anywhere. I have one of those hanging shoe racks that hang from the rod & the rest of my seasonal footwear in a pull out container under the bed. Check your local Dollar Store cause you'd be surprised what organizing things you'll find there!

I actually am trying new organization ideas for my bedroom closets right now. I am not very tall and keep a step stool in my room to reach items all the time. I am also clutsy and stub my toes on the stool when I dont close it up, so I understand the hesitation about the stool. I found that one of my closet bars is far enough from the wall where there is space between my clothes and the wall and the bar was hung slightly lower than the shelf so you are able to see the wall. I am going to put c-hooks that will screw into the back wall of the closet up to hang belts, bags or even jewerly. As for you boot problem, the only thing I found so far that no one suggested is to use closepins to attach the boots to hangers and hang them in the closet! Good luck!

Found someone with same concept as I was explaining to you about the space behind your clothes. It was posted on this site: "Cable Strap Hack Storage Solution"

Check it out for the pictures, they may spark ideas that haven't been suggested!
