Chalking It Up: Happy Spring Blooms!

We’re enjoying some welcome 70 degree temperatures that have my palms itching to dig in the dirt! Our frost date is April 15th so I’m biding my time and satisfying my craving for flowers with spring bulbs. . .and chalkboard blooms!

Hyacinths and daffodils join chalkboard blooms along with plum tree blossoms that I cut before our freeze last weekend. I placed them in a bucket in the garage so I could enjoy a basket of the pretty pink blooms longer than Mother Nature would allow.

My Potting Shed back door was a $12 salvage find, that had a broken glass window.

Instead of replacing the glass, I added a board and painted it with chalkboard paint to "plant" with seasonal messages and inspiration.

I wanted to keep the interior side of the door chippy and peeling, so I cleaned the door and removed only the loose paint chips. I watered down some green acrylic craft paint for a light wash of color over the existing white paint, then dry brushed some brown acrylic paint on to highlight some areas. I added some glass knobs to the panels on the door to hang jars to hold flowers, chalk, or tools.

Walmart had a beautiful selection of spring bulbs in the outdoor garden area. . . large pots of fragrant hyacinths and cheery daffodils for $5 and mini pots for $1.

I repurposed a vintage metal picnic basket as a planter for decorating the Potting Shed porch for spring.

I lined the picnic tin with some plastic and filled it with pots of bulbs. I added a layer of Spanish moss on top, and tucked in a bird’s nest, along with some speckled faux Easter eggs. When the flowers are spent, they can be planted to enjoy in the garden next spring.

A watering can, gloves, wellies and a cute green plaid bunny doormat found at World Market a couple of weeks ago add a little garden decor to the back porch of the Potting Shed.

I picked up a flat of violas to plant that can tolerate our roller coaster spring temperatures and weather.

I couldn’t resist having a little fun with the bunny tail and bouquet his bouquet of flowers. ;)

Hope you're enjoying some spring blooms where you are! More photos and details at the link below!
