I don't think it's too late! You want to get them rooted before the next frost, at least 6 weeks before, and depending on where you live -- there is likely still plenty of time
Most likey they will not flower,however I would plant them if the ground is workable.Spring bulbs should be planted in the fall .
I really does depend on where you are. I suggest you check with your County Extension office or if there's a Master Gardener group in your area, they would know. Also, there is usually a state university that offers online resources and are linked to the County Extension office and frequently host the Master Gardener program. In Florida, it's the University of Florida. Try the University of Kentucky online.
Yeah, in Kentucky you're a little late, a lot of bulbs are already blooming, and it will turn off too hot before ones planted now can get going. It's a great time right now for bulbs to be planted for summer flowers like gladiolus, dahlias, all sorts of lilies, elephant ears, and begonias though.
Bulbs you find in the stores now are for spring planting.
