A mantel is usually the main feature in a room.

The use of dramatic faux finishes transformed this grand piece from ordinary to extraordinary. Multiple tones of metallic bronze were chosen to blend with the accessories. Rich tones of brown soften the cap and bases. It works to create a frame the outlines the intricate masonry making it the center of attention. OK, You have inspired me to do this to my boring white shelves flanking my stacked stone fireplace. I will post a picture soon of it. Or shpuld I just splurge and and have someone replace the shelves and cabinets with a beautiful wood?

You may want to consider having them painted to LOOK like wood.

Here is a link to my site that shows the whole project.
