Do you mean something like this? Or specifically with scissor like handles? https://www.amazon.com/Tooltron-Sewing-and-Quilting-Tweezer/dp/B019GLWXP8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491399041&sr=8-2&keywords=tweezers+for+quilting
Surgical clamp/hemostat is probably what you are looking for. Google it to see photos. Amazon sells them. My hubs uses them for some fishing thing...lures, flys, whatever. They are useful in many different ways and especially in sewing.
suggest getting a scrap of leather and using that around the needle to keep it from having scratches on it - that will pick at the fabric over time and ruin the needle. I use a pair of needlenose pliers when I need a little more grab on my needle. Don' recommend the hemostats that click and lock, would be a pain to unlock for every use. I would look at a small pair of needlenose or blunt nose pliers - like used in beading. Check out Hobby Lobby (with coupon!) or Harbor Freight if you have one nearby.
My grandma & I would use a pair of pliers. We wrapped masking tape around the ends to prevent them from scratching the needle.
I was just given a pair, along with 3 other brand new medical tools, by my surgeon, after he removed 30 staples from my back after surgery. I would also suggest searching under medical supplies.
hardware stores have hemostats
hemostats are small pliers used in health care. some are considered disposable. other not. amazon has a nice selection.
you can find them on e bay
look in the health and beauty aids department at your local Walmart or CVS or Walgreens. I found them with the other tweezers.
