It wouldn't have an arched top, but a bi-fold door with half louvers would work. They come two in a pack so you could make two of them for about half the price of the one you saw today..

If you are going to use a louver door, cut a panel from thin plywood and then get hooks in the garden department to hook in the bottom louvers to hang a different colored buckets on to hold your chalk, a place to drop keys, coin holder for kids to get lunch money, etc.

Re-Stores where they recycle building materials like Habitat for Humanity have tons of stuff like this. My Mother has these on the outside of her house. You can pick them up for next to nothing. Or you can try other things to get the look you want. Try picture frame, different things,

Thank you so much@Sherri. I'm so sorry you've been ill. I hope it's nothing that can't be cured. Do you think it was caused by the chemicals you used while cleaning? About the cleaning lady, I did hire the young woman I interviewed Tuesday. She starts in the morning. I never thought to have her checked out or put minicams put in. We sat and talked for a good half hour about a variety of things including, but not all about what she'll do for me. Tomorrow I'll more than likely go over more of what I want her to do and what products to use so I'll be close by. Because of my allergies she'll be using all my cleaners and tools so she won't have a cleaning bag. I'm just not going to let myself worry about it right now as I just lost a cousin to cancer this morning so I'll give this worry to the Lord. I will be vigilant though. Thank you so much!
  • Home Depot also sells 2' x 4' chalkboard panels. They are really nice! This way, you wouldn't have to cut a board and paint it with the chalkboard paint. It could be inserted in the opening.

I agree about using the louver doors or could also use shutters for smaller size ones. , also check out craigslist or bookoo yard sales for them, you could do as Cher said and insert chalkboard pieces at top or a piece of luan and paint w/ chalkboard paint. You could put the other door next to it (see pic.) w/ shelves or elsewhere in the house.. By the way how did Thanksgiving work out?

For the chalk board I would recommend going to Lowes or Home Depot and get a piece of sheet metal and spray paint w/ chalk board paint so that it is also magnetic.

Check garage sales, craigslist and thrift shops for them before you pay full price. I get them for around $5 for 4 of them that way. Remove the top louvers, insert a piece of cut brown boarding like they use on the back of furniture its at your local Lowe's and they will cut it for you. Paint with chalk board paint. Keep some of the removed louvers and turn them upside down at the bottom of the chalk board to hold your chalk pieces. Paint and love using it!

I agree with Kathy Morton, I would get sheet metal spray paint and it can be used as magnet. I have some of them in picture frames for reminder notes. That is so much cheaper!!

Habitat Restores usually have many Bi Fold Doors.. Remove the top portion of the louvers and replace with a picture frame.

chalk board on top maybe, memo board-- callage of family pictures-tension rods with material to match a rooms décor --slats could hold kids art work depending on width,- small organizing xmas card in slots at that time of the year-- attach a planter to it and let a vining plant grow up it. Hooks to hold small organizing baskets -would like this next to my sewing table for arts and crafts-sewing or thread, pins needles ribbon bobbins etc. seen small one used to organize mail in a home office.
