I find that Lowes and Home Depot cabinets are low quality and a fair price. Lot of particle board and MDF. Cabinets to Go or Ikea have good, better, and best cabinets.

Thumbs up for Habitat for Humanity Restore. Not only do they do brand new full kitchens at a decent price a lot of times when the big box stores transition out styles they'll donate leftover stock to Habitat, so will builders that have leftovers at the end of a large subdivision project. Thanks to a lucky stop one afternoon I found brand new in box cabinets there and we were able to completely redo my moms 360 sq ft kitchen, including adding a full length pantry cabinet and a 6' island, and get her a large linen cabinet for her master bath all for less than $1,600! Can't beat that!

Craigslist often have great cabinets for just the removal. If you are near a large city check them out. You can remove the cabinets for someone else who also wants be on a budget. Keep up with remodeling companies and see if you can remove theirs for them. Habitat is my always go to place. First think though, are your cabinets that bad that they can't be moved around and repainted. I did mine and bought new appliances all for 3500.00 and a lot of labor. I love it.
