Yes will have to prime the wall or the black will show through.

    Hi Denice,

Yes a primer is a great idea, you may want to consider one with a 'Stain Blocker' formula such as Zinsser 123, which has a bit of a sheen to it once it dries and may require 3 or 4 top coats to get an even final colour and lustre. Otherwise the black will darken your final colour.

Yes. You're going to need to prime it first.

Yes, most likely, but also ask your paint mixing people about the "all in one" paints that have primer already in them. We use one from Lowes that has primer in it already and it normally only requires two coats to complete. I have however not ever painted over a black wall, so just be sure to ask the paint specialist when getting your paint. Good luck!

Yes. Unless you buy the paint that has Primer in it.

We used a Glidden paint in a very light color to paint over a red, white and black striped wall. It specifically did not state it had a primer, but it may have been their "high endurance" formula though I don't think so. Didn't use a primer and it came out perfectly! They make many paints now that are called something like "one coat" that cover nicely. You could look for something like one of those to save you a step. Good luck!
