How to make a terrarium?

I have used mason jars, old vases and other misc glass. Succulents do well in terrariums.

The containers are endless......... fish tanks and bowls, jars, hurricane lamp shades and a new idea is to buy picture frames from the Dollar Tree and make you own. Make sure to research the type of plants, the layering of drainage and soil and the amount of time to keep covered or uncovered. With all the fairy miniature pieces to add, they can become a magical garden.

use dollar store picture frames glued or silicone caulked (make sure it is mold resistant for kitchens or bathrooms) together....you could even paint a design on with a template and glass paint or etch the glass...or attach colored flatback glass stones bought at the dollar store

There are so many differnt glass jars that work well. Michaels craft stores and Target have a large selection of jars that work well (large enough opening to get your hand in easily to plant) Target even has kits in the garden section right now. I use small stones (pea size) on the bottom followed with a layer of activated charcoal found with the fish tank supplies. Then a layer of potting soil. Add your plants...research this a bit to find ones that do well in humid areas and won't grow too quickly or you'll be replacing plants a lot. Decorate with polished rocks or minatures found at the craft store. I use a lid on mine and when the inside fogs up I take it off to allow it to ventilate for awhile.
