I've always wanted the wall decor shown on Fixer Upper. Mainly an old, distressed sign. So I've finally decided to just make one of my own.

I started with an old shutter. I found this at a local antique booth and I fell in love.

I started by painting the shutter with off white chalk paint. I originally wanted to just white wash it but ended up totally painting it.

After it dried I began marking off where my letters would be. I simply took a ruler and drew out my text. This took a bit of calculating to make sure everything would fit on my sign.

Next I started painting on my text.

When my paint was dry I took a medium grit sandpaper to the sign and began to distress it. This is all by personal preference how much or little distressing you want.

After I distressed the front I flipped the sign over and placed two nails on either side of the sign.

I used some wire to wrap around the two nails to hang the sign.

Here is how the wire should be, across the back of your sign.

All that's left to do is hang it! I decided to go with the words "Fresh Honey" to go with the bee theme I have in my apartment. Plus, this is me and my "honey's" bedroom. (See what I did there 😉)

I also like the sign here on the opposite side of my room above the TV. I need your help, let me know where it looks better!

Excellent. In addition to being creative it appears you have a green thumb, too. Lovely plant.
